Why Vespa Has Distinctive Design

Among all the motorcycles from the Harley Davidson in the past to Honda and Yamaha manufactured in recent years, Vespa has the distinctive design and literally it can be considered as the earliest ancestor of all scooters, however, do you know why Vespa has such design at the beginning?

Let’s at first introduce the designer of Vespa, Corradino D’Ascanio, who was also the famous engineering designer for the first helicopter in Italy. In 1945, Vittorio Belmondo, the former design of Vespa, was fired by Piaggio because of the unsuccessful design on Vespa, and then Corradino D’Ascanio became the leader of design team.

From the first day on designing Vespa, Corradino refused to see all the designs by former designer and he wanted to make his own design. Believe it or not, Corradino himself could not ride motorcycle before, in his viewpoint, it was not convenient to ride motorcycle, just like riding on a horse, especially for people who were shorter, and the motorcycle could not meet the basic standard for people of all ages and both sexes as main vehicle.

In the morning on the weekend, he had the idea that the motor of motorcycle should be installed at the back under seats. With this design, it was more convenient to ride, in addition, as for women who loves beauty, their skirt would not be soiled when riding on motorcycle.
