London Bus Employees Want to Get Bonus During Olympic Games

About thousands of bus employees from London bus company want to get a £ 500 bonus during the coming London Olympic Games, otherwise they will strike at that time. Unite, the largest Trade union organizations in the Britain had sent a letter to the London bus operators and called for the 28,000 employees to negotiate to get bonus during the Olympic Games this year. They argued that the Olympics would intensify the pressure of the public transportation system because there would be an additional 800,000 passengers to take the London buses at that time, which would exacerbate the workload of these employees. Therefore it is necessary to pay £ 500 bonus for each employees in the London bus companies. At the same time, the prize of this amount should be consistent with the other employees in other London transit system. If the negotiations fail, the bus employees will take strike action.

Compared with the employees from London subway and train system, bus employees often consider themselves as second-class citizen and have the lowest payment.

The trade union thinks that during the Olympic Games bus company’s profit will increase substantially, which is inseparable from the employees’ hard work, so they should be given due return. During the Olympic Games, the working employees will get at least 650 pounds as bonus and the train and subway drivers also get at least 500 pounds. Therefore employees from bus companies also want the same right.
